Duchess of Weaselskin

Did you know or have you researched one hundred years for the following little tidbits of history? The 27th Comet discovered by Dr. William Brooks, and the white slave act that was up at the U.S. Supreme Court.

100 Years Ago Today - 22 October 1912

Last week in The Okie Legacy Ezine we wrote about the attempted assassination of Colonel Theodore Roosevelt, who was running for a third term as president on the "Bull Moose (Progressive)" party ticket. This week one hundred years ago we find in The San Francisco Call, Tuesday, 22 October 1912, page 3, that Col. Roosevelt was on his way home 21 October 1912, to Oyster Bay, accompanied by his wife, and the bullet still in his body.

NW Okie's Corner

Sorry! I am running a tad late tonight! Been researching history, fact-checking a few candidates and watching the third presidential debate! I did get my mail-in ballot filled out and mailed in this weekend, though. Has early voting started in your neck of the woods? And . . . Yes! I cast my Vote for the re-election of President Obama!

Pendleton County, (West) Virginia - Family Group Histories

Where a county has been settled for more than a century and a half, where no systematic genealogical records had been kept and preserved, and where no newspaper had existed for more than a small fraction of the time, no such degree of completeness can be reached, even with an unlimited amount of time at the disposal of the local historian. A person depended very largely back then upon family tradition. It did not belong to those family members to set any of this tradition aside, except in so far as unreliability was plainly manifested.

Former U.S. Senator George McGovern

We are remembering former U.S. Senator George McGovern, who ran against Nixon in 1972 or the presidency. Some of us remember George Stanley McGovern (19 july 1922- 21 october 2012) as an American historian, author and U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, and the Democratic Party presidential nominee in the 1972 presidential election. Many have worked on his campaign of 1972 directly or indirectly.

Remembering Oklahoma's Favorite Son, Will Rogers

Will Rogers was a stage name, as Will's birth name was William Penn Adair, son of Clem. It was 15 August 1935, the day that struck many like a simultaneous earthquake in both politics and entertainment. A day that Oklahoma's humorist, politician and actor, Will Rogers, died in a plane crash with Wiley Post, 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

What is Real Reason Why The Heartland States Loathe President Obama?

Why do so many alleged fair-minded Voters in Oklahoma, Kansas & Southern States loathe President Obama? Why do they believe all the absurd falsehoods spread through chain-emails, Facebook and other social networks no matter how preposterous they might be? This puzzles me to no end!

Is the ultra-conservative Republican ideology in these Southern States, including Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas, on the verge of parading, leaning towards a "kook-dom" of "wingnuts?" Why is this? How do we combat it and fix it?

It seems to be a widespread, far-fetched undeniably absurdity of internet of chain-letters,FOX rantings by Limbaugh and ultra-conservative media that suggest something else is happening in Oklahoma and other anti-Obama hotbeds?

Let us open our minds, honestly and see what might be at the core of these hateful rantings [more]...   |  View or Add Comments (0 Comments)   |   Receive updates ( subscribers)  |   Unsubscribe
