NW Okie's Journey

She's Back! And it is good to be back, finally, in the awe inspiring Southwest Colorado Rockies at sunset, 21 December 2013, Saturday! But . . . we still have a few more trips back to Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas for breast reconstruction and visits to my oncologist.

Is There A Santa Claus

With Christmas just around the corner,we searched and found this following 1914 article in The Anderson Intelligencer, dated 15 December 1914, page 4, printed in Anderson, South Carolina. Back then this was the season when the kiddies were interested in writing their letters to Santa Claus, making known their desires as to what shall be placed in their stockings on the most interesting night of the year to childhood. In Memory of Duchess Rose (2003-2013)

This little memorial is for my beloved friend and companion, Duchess Rose (a.k.a. Duchess of Weaselskin, Duch, and my Valentine Pug of 2003). Duchess was born 14 February 2003 and passed away 27 November 2013. Duchess is upon the mountain top with her dog friend Daisy (the Schnauzer) watching over her Southwest Rocky Mountain retreat where her humans and friends reside.

"The Orient" Available

This also from the Waynoka Historical Society and Sandie Olson, "There was a plan in the late 1800s to build the KCM&O Railroad (Kansas City, Mexico & Orient) from the eastern seaboard to the Gulf of Mexico where goods from New England could be shipped to the Orient. The KCM&O, later owned by the Santa Fe Railroad, operated for 60 years."

Early History of Avard Available

The following was sent to us by Sandie Olson, with the Waynoka Historical Society, in Waynoka, Oklahoma.

Several decades ago, Glenn E. Duck (1893-1978) wrote a history of Avard, Oklahoma. Most of the history was written in the 1960's. One page is a hand-drawn map showing the occupants of area farms. Later, Mr. Duck added several follow-up pages to the manuscript.
