I have been spending my early morning hours walking two an a quarter mile up here in the southwest corner of the Colorado Rockies, in the mountains where you find Vallecito Camp ground. One hundred years ago today, 12 August 1914, Wednesday, The Washington Herald front page headlines were: Kaiser's Campaign On France Gains Chief Laurels In Checking the Alsatian Invasion At Muelhausen. Allies were concentrating to check German advance that was threatening Brussels. There was a brilliant French victory to halt Kaiser's army at Spencourt . . . bombardment of Liege continued.
