NW Okie's Journey

I'm Back! I know some probably wondered what the heck happened to this NW Okie, huh? I want to begin by thanking you for your patience as I was taking a sort of sabbatical for the past few weeks (almost whole month of July, 2014) to get the finishing touches, concerning my breast reconstruction in Houston, Texas. Everything went well on the medical account, and we did get to play, catchup with a dear old friend (cancer sister) while we were down there.

Walking With Sadie

Well! NW Okie finally got back from Houston, Texas a week ago, and this photo is the only thing she gave me to work with this week. But maybe that ain't so bad ... these images are of the 45rpm RCA Victor Red and Blue vinyl records that we found at Traders Village in Houston, Texas while we were down there.

28 July 1914 - War Declared On Servia

It was Tuesday afternoon, 28 July 1914, the Michigan newspaper, The Calument News, had the front page headlines: War Is Declared On Servia. Austria-Hungary sends notification of its intention to start hostilities; Germany rejects Grey's Mediation plan. Ally of Dual monarchy is prepared, however, to welcome any further suggestions to localize conflict as far as consistent with its duty. All European Nations hurriedly preparing for eventualities.

1914, July Telluride Flood

In the same front page headlines from The Calumet News, 28 July 1914, we found this article, Much Damage Done By Flood In Telluride. Fifty families made homeless and two drowned by Rush of 10-ft. wall of water. Buildings were wrecked. Fifteen business blocks and many houses swept away pt badly damaged.

How many of you can remember back 45 years, 20 July 1969, NASA's Apollo 11, and the Eagle Lander touching down on the lunar surface? Where were you when it happened? Were you one of the 5 million persons gathered around television sets, radios listening and waiting for news of the lunar landing?
