Who was this alleged gangster, Al Capone? How did he get the nickname of "Scarface?" These are just some of the questions we will try to answer this week via news article in The San Bernardino County Sun, San Bernardino, CA, dated 29 August 1928, Wednesday, page 3: "New York Police Wonder Why Al Capone Escapes Gangsters, Find Reason in Lore of Street" and "How Gang Chief Spared Youth Who Scarred Him for Life Is Learned by Detectives," written by Lemuel F. 1925 Gangsters And Chicago Police Battle, 3 Dead

Let us take a look at the "gangsters" of the 1920's. We researched the gangsters in The Hutchinson News, Hutchinson, Kansas, dated 13 June 1925, Saturday, page 1: "Gangsters And Chicago Police Battle, 3 Dead," while two factions shoot it out at close range. Bandits opened fire on officers after their car had been stopped.

In the Great Bend Tribune, Great bend, Kansas, dated 13 May 1922, Saturday, page 1, we learn of other gangsters kill two in barber shop. Men armed with Shotguns Killed proprietor and and man being shaved in Italian section of Chicago. The headlines read: "150 Labor Men Held In Chicago."

Where Darwin Isn't Taught, Planning To "Make A Monkey Out of Bryan" - July 1925

It was in the Times-Leader, WIlkes=Barre, Pennsylvania, dated 10 July 1925, page 18, we found this write-up of the Scopes Trial: "Where Darwin Isn't Taught Planning To Make A Monkey Out of Bryan."

The principal lawyers for the defense of John T. Scopes were shown conferring with Scope. Those involved with the defense were Chicago lawyer, Clarence Darrow, who defended Loeb and leopold; Dudley Field Malone, former collector of the port of New York; Dr. John R. Neal, chief of the defense counsel.
