December 1919 - Gamet and Vicinity...
"The fine weather of last week still continues and those who predicted the big storm have ceased their warnings. The Christmas tree at Gamet Christmas Eve was a grand success, plenty of treats for all and a fine program rendered, gotten up by the Sunday School.
Thursday, December 25th, at 3:30 o'clock, Miss May Baker and Mr. Charley Tynan were married. The young couple will make their home in Alva and have the best wishes of many friends in this
community.
Len Schubaugh threshed kafir corn for Cox's, Murley's and McGinnis Monday, and went on toward Alva with his machine. He expects to cross the river and do some threshing.
Wiley Wright, Sam Cox and I. W. Barnhouse have been hauling wheat to Alva this week. Grandma Roberts spent the holidays with her daughter at Dacoma. Anyone wanting water pumped would do well to see Mr. Groesbeck and Mr. Barnhouse, as they have a first class pumping outfit made from the trusty old Ford. Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cox and family ate Christmas dinner with relatives in Alva.
What might have been a serious runaway occurred at Gamet last Sunday night, when Henry Hall's team broke loose from the hitching post while he was attending church service. Fortunately the team was stopped and very little damage done. Mrs. Fred Gilleland is staying in Alva this week with her mother who is sick. Mr. Adrian Baker spent Christmas night at Mr. McGinnis.
Mr. and Mrs. John Sherrill and family of Dacoma, ate Christmas dinner with Grandma Roberts. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Murley and family were royally entertained to dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N. McGinnis. Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Barnhouse and family and Bro. Batman's spent Christmas day at the home of W. W. Wright.
