Here it is the first day of October! Are you like we are, "Wondering where Summer and September have gone?" We love this time of year, though, with the gold, red foliage mixed in with the different shades of green as Fall makes it's debut across the mountainsides. We would love to see New England about NOW!
We experienced this herd of wild turkeys (if there is such a thing as a herd) earlier this week. It was early Tuesday morning, when we looked outside the kitchen window to the north and spotted almost 30 wild turkeys strutting, grazing at our country place. After awhile of watching them, they split up into two groups with the first group taking the backway around the backside of the house. Meanwhile, the remaining group of wild turkeys strutted through the front yard and across the driveway -- eventually taking flight to the tree tops in the next pasture. Tuesday was also the day we received almost 1/4-inch of rain by the evening hours.
When Thursday came around it was another cloudy, thunderstorm type of day here in SW Colorado. At our place south of Bayfield we eventually received another quarter of an inch of rain while the higher elevations (mountain tops) received their first snow of 2005. This photo is a view looking north towards the mountains from our place in the valley.
We heard from our oldest son this week. He is off to Houston (Texas) to help the Houston Food Bank. Mike says, "It was a bit intimidating the first day at the Houston Food Bank since West Texas Food Bank only distributes 6 million pounds a year while
Houston distributes 40 million. But I felt welcome and they were patient as I learned their procedures. I am here for the next two weeks. I am currently doing some coding, updating their inventory system. They are really taxed -- their staff having to feed the evacuees of both hurricanes."
If you haven't already noticed, we have made some changes to our OkieLegacy Menu. Our Mac users were having a bit of problem with the old menu being a bit confusing and overlapping text into the "Comment" section so they couldn't add a comment. Not being a "Mac" user, it's hard for this NW Okie to figure out what is going on unless I hear from some of you. We hope this
NEW Menu you see at the top is more "Mac Friendly." Before you mouse-over "Volumes," do NOT click on "Vol. 8." That's next years Volume. BUT... the others Volumes should lead you to the archived content pages of each Volume 1 thru 7.
