Early 1900s NW Oklahoma Territory Horse & Buggy Courtin'
Imagining the horse and buggy courtin' days for a couple of grandparents during the early 1900s, NW Oklahoma Territory, near Alva, Waynoka, Freedom, Capron and Hopeton.
It was back in the horse and buggy days, NW Oklahoma Territory that a young girl was being courted by a handsome young baseball player and rural school teacher.
Young Constance Estella Warwick in the early 1900s was a single school teacher as was one of her admirers, Wm J. "Bill" Mcgill.
Bill McGill was a gentleman farmer/rancher after his marriage in March, 1910 to Constance Estella Warwick.
During Bill's minor baseball season in early 1900s, he would travel down to Austin, TX to pitch for the Austin Senators in the Southern Texas league. On his way back he would gather a load of furniture for his furniture store he helped run with his older brother, James McGill, in Alva, Oklahoma Territory.
Meanwhile, Constance was teaching in rural one room schools.
These are just a few of the photos of Bill and Constance on their NW Oklahoma Territory buggy, horseback courtin' days out in the country where Constance's father John R. Warwick farmed and ranch.
We know back then that school teachers were not allowed to marry. They only hired single women and men as teachers. A woman was required to be accompanied by a chaperone on a date with the opposite sex to protect a woman's moral virtue and standing in the community.
