1926 NSTC Yearbook - Junior Class Officers

Junior Class Officers (Left to Right): Rolf Graves, President – History. Tuff Nutts, “Garden of The Shah,” “The China Shop,” “Microbes of Love.” Absence makes the heart grow fonder, (of the other fellow). Alvin Middleton, Vice President – Social Science. Ranger Club, Tuff Nutts, Football ’23, ’24, ’25, All state fullback ’25, Track ’23, ’24, ’25, ’26. We envy him his marcel. Margaret Riley, Sec. Treas. – History. Delta Sigma Epsilon. A sweet face, a sunny smile, what else could be more worth while.

Junior Class… Miss Ottalie Terrill, Sponsor
Not with more glories in the ethereal plain,
The sun first rises o’er the purple plain
Then issuing forth his rivals fair at even,
The bright, beautifully brilliant class of ’27.
(With apologies to all poets.)

Far be it from us to boast, for is not the braggart natures best abomination? Far be it from us to render undue laud and honor to ourselves. But no eulogies conceivable by human mind, no synopsium recorded by an “Underwood” would do justice to the tempermental talents, the abiding abilities, and genuine genius of the Junior Class. If you tend to doubt it, beware, -- truth is stranger than fiction.

With the coming of the class of ’27, Northwestern received the impetus which is still emulated by all the other classes, for attendance at class meetings.

To our class belongs the All State half-back, “Mickey” Middleton. To our class belongs the Ranger King, Wayne Ballard; to our class belongs the Football Queen, Marie Bost. We came so near claiming the winner on the popularity contest that we got all the thrills of supporting our candidates” to the very close of the race. There is not an activity in the college where the juniors are not among the leaders, nor on the campus. We also have the handsomest men and the prettiest girls that the College affords.

There are other classes, and there may be classes in the future but no other one class can ever hope to attain the degree of eminence that we claim as ours as the result of perserverence and brotherly love.

We pause in closing to mention one sad thing that may have not occurred to the rest of you at Northwestern. What, we beg and venture, is going to direct the fortunes of dear Alma Mater when we have passed out and on?
