NW Okie's Journey

This week The OkieLegacy Ezine/Tabloid includes photos and legacies of the 1926 Northwestern State Teacher's College (NSTC) via its 1926 Ranger Yearbook, beginning with the Art Department at NSTC.

What's a college without an Art department? In 1926, Northwestern State Teacher's College (NSTC), in Northwestern Oklahoma, Alva, Woods County, had an art department. Here are a few pics from the 1926 NSTC Ranger yearbook with what they believed, "Art is the union of our best thoughts, feelings and fancies preserved in a concrete form of expression...."

Opal Roche, B.S. – Miss Roche came to Northwestern in the Fall of 1925. Her post-graduate work was done at the Chicago Art Institute and special study with Professor Bishop of Broadmoor Academy of Colorado and Frederick V. Poole of Westminister School, England.
The yearbook of 1926 mentions, “Art is the union of our best thoughts, feelings and fancies preserved in a concrete form of expression. Without ability to appreciate the beautiful in life we have no capacity for the practical for we cannot foster highest ideals or evenest personalities. There is nothing in the schools of our country that builds more character or teaches truer values. Ah! But a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a Heaven for?”
