Ranger Album 1917 NSN Base Ball Season

The outlook for a good base ball season is exceptionally good this year. There is a large number of the old men back and a number of new men have come in, who are expected to make a good showing. The team was rather late getting started to work this year, but nevertheless it is expected that Coach Wyatt will whip the boys into shape in a very short while. The student body this year is back of the team with more pep and enthusiasm than ever before.

The schedule for the season is a good one and there is no doubt but that Coach Wyatt will have his men fighting for this state championship before the close of the season. Our president is highly interested in the welfare of Old Northwestern and is a strong believer in athletics.

Consequently athletics at Northwestern this year has received a decided impetus and N. S. N. is making a much better showing than in years gone by. Our base ball team is no exception. We have always had a wonderfully good base ball team but this year we are expecting base ball to be much better and more interesting than ever before.

In The Morning Tulsa Daily World, Tulsa, Oklahoma, dated 12 August 1917, Sunday, page 19, mentioned the following concerning Northwestern State Normal and Frank S. Wyatt:

"While there may be athletes among the names of those from Alva, the only one well known is Frank S. Wyatt, who made Northwestern Normal felt in athletics. Wyatt developed Northwestern's best football teams, coached her best track teams and developed that wonderful Ranger basketball combination which not only swept clean in the southwest, but made a national reputation by its trip to the Pacific coast last winter (1916) and in the national tournament at Chicago."
