Impacts In Our Lifetime
Here is another little tidbit that NW Okie was discovering on a Thursday, July 22, 1999, when she wrote the following: "Impacts In Our Lifetime." And I know we have all been impacted in some way or the other, good or bad, by those who have crossed our paths.
Recently this question was posed to me and I pose it to you -- "Do we ever have any idea what impact we have on other people we come across in our lives?"
Maybe the reason we can't measure the impact we have on others and they on us is because we DON'T tell them often enough what an impact they have made in our lives!
Each person we interact with impacts our life and we impact theirs in some way or another. Good or Bad! "How do we judge the impact we have on others?"
I posed these two questions to some friends and family members to get their views. I would love to hear your responses to the questions.
Someone in Florida had this to say, "No we can't and there is no way to measure the impact--good or bad--in most cases. So, we need to be especially careful how we live our every day lives."
Another friend stated, "Maybe this is what Heaven (and hell) are about. When we die, we get to know all the positive impacts of our actions, which would be...well, heavenly. Maybe we also must then suffer in the same way that our unkind act caused the other person to suffer."
Another friend responded, "All I can say is I do believe that we do know how much of an impact we have on people we know and see each day in our lives. That's why we act polite and courteous to other people that matter to us so that our impact on their lives will show and they'll remember us for what we did, know, and how we acted to them and everyong else around us."
A local newspaperman thought it was a heavy question and had to think about it. BUT...stated, "Of course, the useless answer is 'I doubt it is measurable.'"
Perhaps we shouldn't wait until someone has died or retired to let them know what an impact they have had on our lives. Looking back at just a few individuals who have impacted and shaped my life...I would have to say my sister (Dorthy) has shown me through her actions that "It is Okay to stand up for what you believe is right!!"
AND--"Together we CAN do it! Together we CAN made a difference!" This has given me the strength to look beyond and make things positive in my life.
My sisters, parents, family, friends and my hometown communities have made an impact on this Oakie. Some Good, some Bad, but they are impacts that have given me the courage, endurance and strength to survive just about anything put before me.
To my online friends (some I've met - some I haven't) and family, I give thanks for standing by me with love, understanding, encouragement, and support when I began my Heart-to-Heart newsletter. I will never forget you. I will always cherish those things you have given and impressed upon me. Most of all...Patience!
