Walking With Sweet Silly Sadie
In searching for information on NW Okie's grandpa Bill Mcgill's baseball stint with he St. Louis Browns back in 1907, we found the pitcher Mcgill cost the Browns $1,000 when they bought him from the South Texas League, Austin Senators back in 1907.

It was in the St. Louis Dispatch, ST. Louis, Missouri, dated 8 August 1907, Thursday, page 14, the following headlines appeared: "Six New Southpaws For Browns."
Robert Lee Hedges, president of the St. Louis American League Baseball Co., placed the blame for the poor showing of the Browns on the pitching department of the team. Mr. Hedges was asked Wednesday by a representative of the Post Dispatch what was the reason that the Browns next to last in the league race and what the management was doing and intended to do to give ST. Louis a winning team next year.
Hedges reported the team next year will have two new infielders and two new outfielders. At present they had five lefthand pitchers, who would be tried out the latter part of the present season.
Hedges reported we need another catcher, as for the pitchers, Hedges honestly thought Dineen would make a good for us next season. He was coming along fine, although he was still not in the best of condition. Jack Powell, too, was doing satisfactory work. Hedges didn't see why Harry Howell shouldn't pitch winning ball next season as well as this.
But here is some of the men Hedges knew he had strings on: Farris of St. Paul, Keith of Little Rock, Graham of Shreveport, Bailey of Austin, Criss of St. Paul and McGill of Austin. Hedges intended to have all of these men report at the end of their league playing season, which would be about two weeks before the windup of the Browns' season.
Hedges stated, "They will be at their best then and we can get a chance to see what they can do. All of the men are scraping big left-handers. Graham is my latest capture. I consider him one of the best pitchers in the Southern League and his record will show that he is. WE had McGill signed for last season, but he failed to report. He stands 6 feet 2, is young and I feel sure that he will do. Keith, too, is a most promising southpaw on his record."
Woof! Woof! I have a dream! We need a "Future To Believe In .... And a Congress we can believe in, One that won't obstruct - obstruct - obstruct!"
