(1915) Calmly Rob As Citizens View
It was also 10 August 1915, Tuesday, the Oklahoma City Times reported on its front page: "Calmly Rob As Citizens View," as the bandits holding 100 men at bay while accomplices blow bank vault at a bank in Maple Hill, Kansas.
Maple Hill, Kan., Aug. 10 (1915) -- Several robbers held more than one hundred citizens of Maple Hill at bay early that day while companions blew the vault of the Maple Hill State bank and escaped with $3,000. It was believed there were seven men in the band.
The first explosion aroused the citizens, many of whom came into the streets half clad. They were met by armed men who kept them at bay until six farther charges of explosives had been used.
Several weeks before the post office there was blown, the robbers escaping with several hundred dollars in postage stamps.
