NW Okie's Journey
We arrived back in cool SW Colorado a few days ago, leaving the dog days of August in Oklahoma and Texas behind with rising temperatures in the three digits and the 79th Cimarron Stampede Rodeo in full swing in Waynoka, Oklahoma. This coming Thursday thru Saturday is Freedom's "Old Cowhand Reunion & Rodeo."
We are in search of an old 1950's (1952) photograph of Marion S. Monfort showing him with his feet up on a desk and sporting a hole in the sole of his shoe. We are hoping someone out there might have come across the 1952 photo and share with us and the Monfort daughters (Monet & Toni).
In 1952, I am told Marion S. Monfort was a Democrat and an alternate at the Democrat National Convention of 1952, while being a staunch supporter of Adlai Stevenson, who was running against Ike in 1952 and 1956, being beaten both times.
Did the old photograph make the northwest Oklahoma newspaper back then, and can someone check out around and see if we can find the old photo of Marion Strawn Monfort with his feet on desk, hole in sole of his shoe, and posing as a poster boy for the Democrat National Convention? Thanks for any help you can shine our way.
Good Night! Good Luck!
