(1915) Two Soldiers Are Killed, Explosion
Also on 4 August 1915, The Tulsa Daily World was reporting on their front page the following headline reported "Two Soldiers Are Killed, Explosion."
Philadelphia, Aug. 3 (1915) -- Two soldiers and a civilian were killed on that day at the United States arsenal at Frankford, this city, by an explosion of time fuses used on shrapnel shells. Another civilian was injured.
The Dead
Arthur B. Runlet, Boston, first-class private, ordinance department.
Prasilco Frasco, New York, second-class private, ordinance department.
James F. Harkins, civilian, Philadelphia.
The men were unpacking metal fuses which had been withdrawn from service and sent to the arsenal to be broken up when one of the boxes exploded. Bits of steel were scattered in all directions tearing and maiming the men. The cause of the accident had not yet been ascertained.
For several months work had been at high tension in the ordinance department and minor explosions had been of not infrequent occurrence, but the accident that day was the first in a long time in which there was loss of life.
