Indian Territory Outlaws (1915)
It was in a Dalles, Oregon newspaper, The Dalles DailyChronicle, dated 26 December 1894, page 1, that we found this little mention of "The Indian Territory Outlaws" via Claremore, Indian Territory, dated December 24, 1894.
Claremore, I.T., Dec. 24 (1894) -- The French band of outlaws, headed by Jim French and Cherokee Bill, made a raid Saturday on the town of Nowata, about 25 miles north of Claremore, I.T. on the Kansas & Arkansas Valley railroad.
Station agent Bristol was covered with four guns and marched through the waiting-room and compelled to open the safe, from which they took $190. They did not molest those in the waiting-room. After taking the contents of the safe, they marched the agent outside, mounted the rode away, going east. It was feared they would rob the passenger train, which was due but it pulled out safely.
