NW Okie's Journey

[Photo on the left was taken 30 October 2006, of Bud Clark and my Duchess Pug, who took a real liking to Bud Clark just to make me jealous. You can see it in Duchess' expression in this photograph.]

J. L. "Bud" Clark was one of my favorite persons, farmer, rancher of Alva, Woods County, Oklahoma. Bud passed away 27 June 2015. Bud was born 2 April 1928, to Ida Cleo Clark and Joseph Lawrence Clark. Services for Bud Clark will be at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 10:00a.m.

Bud grew up East of Alva, where he helped his dad on the farm, attending the Lambert School system. Bud grew up having a love of all things farming and ranching.

Bud also had a love of the American Quarter horses he raised during his life, with a reputation of always treating them with respect and love.

J. L. "Bud" Clark was a hard working, farmer, rancher and horseman. I believe he was the happiest on a tractor or riding, taking care of his quarter horses.

Bud could go into a room of strangers and soon become friends with everyone there. I also admired Bud for his fun sense of humor. That is just the kind of human beings he and Lovina were.

I enjoyed his stories he told, especially the stories he would tell about my grandmother Mcgill, who liked to come and watch Bud working the field for her back in the olden days. When Bud would ask her why she came to watch, she would reply, "I just like to watch."

I have so many great memories of helping Bud & Lovina Clark on their farm and with their quarter horses. They both were like extended family (mentors & parents) to me. I laugh to this day about the time Bud and I were rounding up the mares in his pastures in his pickup. Bud put me on his stud horse, "Doc" (I think that was his name)" and I was bareback on that stud. I had never ridden bareback in my life. I knew nothing about where the brakes were, but only knew "Whoa." LOL ... As "Doc" and I were trotting along behind the mares, the horses started to pick up speed. I was slipping, sliding from side to side, just trying to hang on. But ... I couldn't resist ... I slid off the side and landed on my feet as "Doc" and the mares galloped out ahead of me.

I loved every minute I spent with Bud & Lovina Clark on their farm; at the Shawnee quarter horse shows; etc... These are memories I will never forget and will cherish always. Both of the Clarks were good, hard working people for whom this NW Okie had a lot of respect and admiration.

I enjoyed soaking up their knowledge of farming, ranching and horses ... And the the past histories of Woods county, Oklahoma. They were my second family that taught me everything I know today about farming, ranching and horses. I loved them both very, very much. I know they are both together again watching over us all who were blessed to have known them.

Good Night! Good Luck!
