100 Years Ago, 1 Dec. 1914, Tuesday
One hundred years ago today, December 1, 1914, it was Tuesday when this Ardmore, Oklahoma newspaper, The Daily Ardmoreite, reported the following front page headlines: Sudden Death At Enid Of Billy Clarke. Clarke died suddenly at a hotel in Enid, 30 November 1914, and no arrangements for funeral had been made.
News was received the morning of 1 December 1914, Tuesday, of the sudden death of W. D. Clarke in his room at a hotel in Enid. No particulars had been obtainable other that that he died of heart failure, and that his death was sudden.
E. Dunlap had wired the sister of Mr. Clarke at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, asking who disposition she desires made of his remains. It they are not taken to her at Sioux Falls, they would be shipped for interment.
Mr. Clarke for a number of years was actively engaged in the real estate business in Ardmore, and recently moved to this city, where he was making headquarters. His death was a distinct shock to his legion of friends, as he was extremely popular with all classes.
No arrangements for the funeral would be made until after his sister had been heard form. Announcement of which would be made later.
