One hundred years ago today, 24 November 1914, The Guthrie Daily Leader had the following front page headlines: "Oklahoma Pioneer Dead." J. W. Kennedy was the only veteran of Mexican war in the state.
Hobart, Nov. 24 (1914) -- J. W. Kennedy, 90 years old, said to be the only survivor of the Mexican war in Oklahoma, died at the home of his daughter, in Hobart, Oklahoma. He was lieutenant in a Tennessee volunteer company and also was said to be one of the few surviving members of the Texas Alamo association.
