1914 - Hundreds Rush To Register On Last Day
In Tacoma, Washington, 13 October 1914, The Tacoma Times reported it was the last day of Voter registration. Long lines of voters, sometimes containing 100 persons, stood at the city clerk's door all day waiting to be placed on the official registration books in order that they might vote November 3, 1914.
When the books opened that morning more than 31,000 voters had registered. The last previous record was two years ago when 28,000 registered, making a 3,000 increase in voters in Tacoma that year.
Because of the fact that two years ago the registration was made for a presidential election, the new record was considered phenomenal.
