NW Okie's Journey
Remember 100 years ago when we were beginning World War I, and farmers were urged to hold cotton seed and cotton because of the low prices each brought?
Not me! That was before my time. But ... maybe there is still someone out there that has heard stories of the cotton, cotton seed industry during that time. Let us hear your stories. Thanks! That is just one of many questions we are exploring this week in The OkieLegacy Weekly Ezine/Tabloid.
Highland Recorder, Friday, 12 August 1910I was browsing through some old newspaper archives, dating back to 1910, in Highland County, Virginia, for anything concerning GWIN. What I find so interesting is the descriptions they use in listing Virginia properties for sale. Such as: "thence 57 1-2 degrees east 346 poles to two White Oak pointers, three Chestnuts on top of Allegheny Mountain near the Malcomb path; South 67 1-2 degrees East 355 poles to the beginning, being a part of Lot no. 12, of the Patton Survey of 37,000 acres."
The descriptions of rocks, trees, poles and ridges placements is so interesting, don't you think so?
Here is to Labor Day Vacationers ... wishing, hoping that all laborers could get and work for a Living Wage that is long over due!
Good Night, Good Luck searching for your roots!
