Walking With Sadie
My buddy schnauzer, Ruff, is our armchair reporter this week. That's him in his recliner. Everyone likes Ruff and his human, Robert! Especially this little black Pug!
NW Okie has been doing some email database cleanup of "dead" emails that have built up over the 16 years. We think we have the bouncers weeded out and everyone that subscribed or wants to be on our OkieLegacy Ezine/Tabloid Weekly are still subscribers. Our hosting server only allows 100 emails sent out every hour, so we made some adjustments in our coding to allow a range of 100 emails sent out from our database to please, satisfy our web hosting server. Hope this works without a hiccup! Crossing our paws to make sure.
Did You Know
The lands acquired by the congressional acts of March 2, 1889, March 3, 1891, and March 3, 1893, were divided into counties by the secretary of the interior, as required by section 10 of the March 1893 act before opening them to settlement. Thus, officials in the nation's capital formed Woods County as M County prior to the opening of the Cherokee Outlet. M County was changed to Woods by popular vote on November 6, 1894.
The Democrats submitted the name "Banner," claiming that it was the banner county of the territory. The Republicans proposed "Flynn" to honor the territory's Congressional Delegate Dennis T. Flynn. The Populists advocated "Wood" to honor Sam Wood, a renowned Kansas Populist.
However, Wood's name appeared as Woods on the ballot, and the secretary of the election committee misidentified Wood as Woods in his election report. The full committee also failed to notice the error before the report was published, and meeting later they decided to keep the for euphony sake.
On another note -- NW Okie has been transferring some old 45rpm Swing music to MP3's again. Look through this week's OkieLegacy Ezine/Tabloid Weekly for the MP3 jukebox link that you can scroll through to listen to early day Swing music of Glenn Miller & Orchestra, Louis Armstrong & Orchestra, Billy May, Frankie Carle and the Four Freshmen.
Good Night & Good Luck
