1914 Ardmore vs Fort Worth Texas League (Baseball)
It was Monday, 23 March 1914, that The Daily Ardmoreite, out of Ardmore, Oklahoma, reported on their front page, "First Game Here Sunday," when the "Fort Worth Texas League" team was to play three games in Ardmore.
It was to be the first ball game of the season to be played at Lorena park that next Sunday, in March, 1914, when the Fort Worth Texas league club came there for three games with Gordon's team. George McAvoy, who managed the Ardmore team during the latter part of 1911 and the whole of 1912, was with Fort Worth.
An exhibition game had also been arranged with Topeka. This club was then at Denison and would play in Ardmore April 6, 1914, en route home.
Catcher Mullins, a promising looking youngster, reported yesterday, Manager Gordon had all his players out at the park giving them a thorough workout. It was expected that all players of the local club would have reported by the end of the week.
