Pete Seeger (3 May 1919-27 January 2014): Power of Song
In the 94 years of his life, Pete Seeger was a musician, activist and a Patriotic American icon. He got us all singing and strumming together in the Power of Song. His performances touched millions for more than seven decades. Some called him a saint, and others said, "We all owe our careers to him."
It was all about the tradition of singing out for social change, and how the music of the Civil Rights, anti-war, Peace and environmental movements galvanized Seeger's life and America's life. We all have our favorite songs. What is yours?
Pete Seeger helped introduce America to its own musical heritage, devoting his life to using the power of song as a force for social change. With his deeply held beliefs, Seeger went from the top of the pop charts to the top of the blacklist and was banned from American commercial television for more than 17 years. But his songs live on for us all!
Pete Seeger: The Power of Song tells us and reminds some of us the story of Seeger's life of music and activation until his death at 94 years, January, 2014.
