Duchess of Weaselskin
"Wilderness, where earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain." - Wilderness Act, 1964.
This is the Weminuche Wilderness that lays North of Vallecito, San Juan Mountains and South of the Rio Grande National Forest. It appears to stretch all the way eastward towards Wold Creek Pass, and taking in Silverton on the western side.
The map in the digital image on the left gives a better perspective of the layout of the Weminuche Wilderness. It is 499,771 acres that make up the Weminuche wilderness. Colorado's largest wilderness. It was established by Congress in 1975 and was named after the Weminuche band of the Ute Indians who inhabited southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico.
