1941 - Over The Review-Courier Trail

December 7, 1941, the following "Over the Review-Courier Trail" written by Arthur Bradbury, appeared in a northwest Oklahoma newspaper with mention of several NW Oklahomans, such as, Bill Lehl, McClain, Carl Seitz, Alfred A. J. Rauh, Russell J. Rauh, and others.

7 December 1941 -- "Out on route one, where it's almost impossible to get a new Review-Courier subscription because they all take it, we did a little renewing today.

"Bill Lehl was getting his well outfit ready to go, has three drilling contracts ahead. Mr. Lehl owns the drilling outfit formerly known as the McClain well drilling rig, one of the best in this section, told us about the last well he drilled. Went two hundred and twenty feet and encountered three different stratas of rock twenty seven feet in all, but he brought in a well of good water. His 25 years of drilling experience should recommend him to those needing a well.

"A very pleasant visit at the home of Mrs. Carl Seitz, and of course a renewal to the Courier. The Seitz home has been saddened by the passing a few months ago of the Senior Carl Seitz. The farm is being operated by Carl Seitz, Jr. This is one of the best equipped wheat farms in this section of Woods county, exceptionally fine outbuildings, a complete wheat elevator and a modern well furnished home surrounded by a landscape lawn.

"Alfred A. J. Rauh is in the midst of a home decoration job, and the interior of this fine rural home is going to be a thing of beauty when finished. The Rauh farm is an example of what close attention in farming and good management can accomplish. A very fine level, well fenced, diversified farm.

"Another Rauh, who will read the Courier another year is Russell J. Rauh. Russell is a member of the third generation of this pioneer family and as are all the other members he to is a substantial farmer operating a well equipped farm in addition to farming activities. Russell is a salesman for one of the leading farm implement companies.

"Southwest of Alva we report a very pleasant visit with Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Sweeney and of course a renewal. Mr. Sweeney had just completed a new storm door to his cave. It is so built that not a drop of water can get through regardless of how long or how hard it rains. It's a very clever idea and while it deserves a patent, we are sure Mr. Sweeney will be glad to show and explain it to anyone.

"Our thanks to the W. A. Lockharts of this same neighborhood for a renewal. While the Lockhart farm is one of the best wheat farms in these parts, these folks do not stop at wheat, but have a flock of fine yellow pullets, several pens of fattening white hogs, milk, several cows, and always a few sheep and you just can't keep folks down who do that.

"A nice letter this morning from Mrs. George Gray, Kiowa, enclosing a check for another year and much praise for our publication and we do like a word of praise once in a while and especially when it comes from folks like the George Grays, who always mean what they say.

"Up at Capron today we added the subscription of Ova Harker. Ova is manager of retail sales at the Arrebello service station and bustling manager. Not to be outdone, pete Arrebello also gave me a renewal. Pete is waiting his call for training in this man's army.
