NW Okie's Corner
We spent Sunday evening in Trinidad, New Mexico, as I jotted down some notes, stories of our research at the Austin History Center, in Texas and Oklahoma History Center, in Oklahoma City (OKC). We were on the way back to the Southwest corner of the Colorado Rockies, arriving back in Bayfield Monday afternoon.
The Oklahoma History Center of OKC produced more information concerning the Kenneth George Roots shooting of Donald Lee Benson, November 26, 1941. The main front page headlines in the Alva, Oklahoma newspaper read: "South Pacific Bases Ready For War Although Signs Show Japan Will Not Take Steps Now." These headlines must have been printed, published before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. There was also mention of the German Forces Retreating.
On the same front page there was a headline that read: "Joan Benson's Attitude Toward Slayer of Brother Is Changed." Eva Joan Benson collaborated her former statement to county attorney Gruber in a closed session Saturday, 6 December 1941. We have included some of these articles in this week's Okie Legacy Ezine.
We have also included some history of the Austin Senators and the Texas League, dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
Have a safe 4th of July this week, and stomp out your little fires.
Good Night & Good Luck throughout your Life!
