One Hundred Years Ago - 24 June 1913
One hundred years ago, The Amarillo Daily News, dated Tuesday, 24 June 1913, had the following front page headlines concerning "Villa Executes Prisoners of War. The American Consul was notified that Villa would attack Juarez with large force.
By Associated Press, El Paso, Texas, June 23 (1913) - An American who arrived after a four day's trip in a handcar reports that General Villa, the constitutionalist commander of the State of Chihuahua, instructed him to notify the American consul that an attack upon Juarez will begin on Thursday with 1800 men.
In the battle Saturday at Nuevas Casas Grandes, Villa's forces captured the town, killing 47 Federals, and capturing 50. Villa ordered the execution of the prisoners.
