December, 1894 - Frank Smith Captures Sutton

In The Norman Transcript (Norman, Okla. Terr.), Vol. o6, No. 12, Ed. 1 Friday, 21 December 1894, there was this mention of Frank Smith capturing Theodore Sutton. Frank Smith received word from Sheriff Defore of Oklahoma county to arrest Theo. Sutton.

Theo. Sutton was wanted for stealing cattle; after receiving the word, Frank Smith began to cast his optics around for the offender of the law. It was not long until he had his man in custody, and placed him in jail to await the coming of the Oklahoma county sheriff.

On Sunday Sheriff Defore arrived, and took his man home with him, where he would remain in jail until he was tried. Sutton had several charges hanging over his head, and would no doubt live for sometime at the expense of Oklahoma county.

It was also reported that whenever a criminal got loose in any part of the country Frank Smith was about the first man apprized of the fact, for the simple reason that he not only had a reputation in Cleveland county but all over the Territory as being a holy-terror to wrong doers.
