Is Alva Improving - 16 March 1911
According to this 16 March 1911 news article that appeared in the local newspaper, Alva Review Courier, there was a question asked, "Is Alva Improving?" Over a hundred years later can we ask the same question: "Is Alva improving?"
It was a question recently asked by a newcomer and easily answered by just looking over our city. A large force of men are at work on the $35,000 city hall. The new $10,000 German Lutheran church was being rapidly pushed to completion. Foundations for the new bricks on the north side were being put in. Finishing touches were being put on the Monfort building, preparatory to occupancy. A force of men are paving on Center Street. Barnes Avenue paving would be finished within the next few months. A $10,000 wholesale grocery house was to be erected at once. Besides all this back in 1911, new residences were being erected in various parts of the Alva city limits.
