Have you been watching "The Presidents" on PBS for the last few weeks? This NW Okie has, and has been loving the episodes. The following is an excerpt of the Taylor to Lincoln 1849-1865, and part of the unprecedented eight-part survey of the personal lives and legacies of the remarkable men who have presided over the Oval Office. From George Washington to George W. Bush.



THE PRESIDENTS gathers together vivid snapshots of all 43 Commanders in Chief who have guided America throughout its history--their powerful personalities, weaknesses, and major achievements or historical insignificance.

As the President said today on this 57th Inauguration day, "The commitments we make to each other -- through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security -- these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great,"

Another quote by Our U.S. President Barack Obama is, "We cannot mistake absolutism for principle, or substitute spectacle for politics, or treat name-calling as reasoned debate." AND ... "Our journey is not complete until ..."
