100 Years Ago Today - 19 November 1912
One hundred years ago today, we browse through The Medford Mail Tribune, out of Medford, Oregon, dated Tuesday, 19 November 1912, and find the front page headlines that reads: "Prinicipal Characters Involved In the Mysterious Gibson Case."
The mysterious case involved Mrs. Rose Menschik Szabo, Burton W. Gibson, Dr. Fritz Fischerauer, District Attorney Thomas C. Rogers, and Judge Herbert B. Royce. What was this case all about? And why was attorney Burton W. Gibson of New York City accused of murdering Mrs. Rose Szabo, a client? Was there friction between Burton and his attorney?
The article in The Medford Mail Tribune reported the following via Goshen, N.Y., Nov. 19 (1912) -- "At the opening of the trial here today of Attorney Burton W. Gibson of New York City, accused of murdering Mrs. Rose Szabo, a client, District attorney Rodgers outlined the state's case against the prisoner.
"Friction was evident between Gibson and his lawyer. The defendant frequently interrupted the attorney for the defense, Robert Elders, during the interrogation of witnesses. A dozen witnesses told of Mrs. Szabo's death at Greenwood Lake last July."
