Cameron Family of Virginia
Peggy McClanhan has a request concerning the CAMERON FAMILY (Written By Maria Boys Cochran Sterrett who died October 31, 1920). The first of this family, who came to America, was Dr. John Cameron who was a son of Cameron of Fassifern, a grandson of Sir Evan Dhu Cameron, and a nephew of Lochiel, the last chief of the Cameron Clan. One of Campbell's best poems "Lochiel" describes Sir Lockiel just before his defeat at the battle of Culloden.
The Camerons were Catholics, and embraced with eagerness the cause of the Pretender. The Pretender was a son of James II, of England, he was born after his father was dethroned. After his father's death in 1701, he was declared by the French King, the rightful King of England, and was called in France the "Chevalier St. George," in England the Pretender.
Peggy asks in Feature #208 of the OkieLegacy Ezine, Cameron Family of Virginia, Vol. 7, Iss. 14, 2005-04-09, "Andrew, I am working on the descendants of Henry Stier Pole. Can you contact me please?"
