Duchess of Weaselskin
Live from the vicinity of Mt. Irvin in Southwest Colorado we wish for you and yours a New Year 2012 filled with humanity and respect for those different than yourself!
Our friend in Nevada reminds us once again that Christmas has twelve days of Christmas and it is not over yet. That 12th day of Christmas I estimate to be around January 5th or 6th. Do I have that correct?
Ellis Raymer sent us an article that reminders us of Alva's Queen Reaches 104 Year Milestone. Some of you might remember Alva's Queen as AnnaBelle Shafer and Shafer Radio on the South side of the downtown square in Alva, Oklahoma.
AnnaBelle married Carl Shafer, from Alva, whose father was Anton Shafer, owner of the Shafer Harness Shop on the south side of the square. Anton was from Germany and was an artist at his craft.
Remember Shafer's Radio and TV where they sold, repaired TV's and radios for 40 years? Remember on summer nights when you could walk downtown and gather outside Shafer's store window to watch programs? We hear that TV set is now at the Cherokee Strip Museum.
AnnaBelle and Carl Shafer were blessed with two sons, Carl E. and David. The local newspaper reports, "AnnaBelle promoted Alva and its many projects resulting in her being dubbed Alva's Queen by District Judge Dean Linder. In 2003, AAUW members selected AnnaBelle as their first Woman of the Year."
Did you know that AnnaBelle's face is one of the people featured in the Alva Mural Society's Centennial Mural located in the courtyard of the Runnymede? Next time you glance at that mural, take a closer look and see if you can find AnnaBelle's face in the mural.
The local newspaper's article also proclaims, "This year, AnnaBelle was selected as Beadles Nursing Home's 2011 Luau Queen by her fellow residents. Despite all of these awards and years of volunteering, AnnaBelle humbly dismisses compliments by saying, 'I don't know that I've done anything out of the ordinary, but I've enjoyed living in Alva.'"
As we finish up here we leave you with this New Year Wish to Everyone, "Learn to look beyond yourself and your needs to embrace the needs of others."
Good Night & Good Luck!
