Parcel Post service begins in Britain.

The first British telephone directory was issued January 15, 1880 by the London Telephone Co. It listed 255 names.

The first wireless telephone message was transmitted June 3, 1880 by Alexander Graham Bell on the photophone he had invented.

The Kansas City Evening Star was founded by publisher William Rockhill Nelson, 39.

Halftone photographic illustrations appear in newspapers for the first time.
