The Oklahoman, dated May 21, 1907, pg. 5, headlines read: Rock Island To Improve Service - Sunday Schedule To Be Inaugurated Between Alva and Shawnee.
Sunday service between Shawnee and Alva will be installed on June 9, 1907 by the Rock Island. Nos. 19 and 20 will run on regular week day schedule on Sundays in the future.
This announcement is made by T. H. Beacon, superintendent in Oklahoma of the Rock Island, and J. W. Robins, vice president and general superintendent of the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf, whose headquarters are in Fort Worth.
"It is in order to improve the service along what is known as the Choctaw Northern that this service is being installed." said Superintendent Beacon last night. "We will put on a purely local train, giving accommodations between Shawnee and Alva."
No. 19, west bound, which has been stopping at El Reno on Sunday, will go through to Alva in future. The southbound train will connect at El Reno for Texas points, giving improved service, and on its return will make direct connection at El Reno with No. 14, facilitating the service to the north. A double service is also to be given between Oklahoma city and Mangum, intermediate points profiting by the new schedule. No. 133, which has hitherto run from Mangum to el Reno will run through to Oklahoma City, arriving here at 1:30 p.m. and leaving here for Mangum at 2:30 p.m. This train will connect with Nos. 13 and 14 at El Reno.
