1907 IOOF - Stephens Co., OK...
"I can't see the details of your (McKinney, TX Odd fellows) photo to tell if the men are wearing this same style scarf or collar. This is a photo of my grandfather Kirte's Calvery and great-grandfather Wm McLain. We have dated it by the little blond headed boy, (father's older bro) as being made about 1907 in Stephens Co. OK.
Several years ago the Duncan Banner had a picture in the paper of the new IOOF officiers in Comanche, Oklahoma. I wondered if the collars they wore were the same as in my picture. I contacted one of the men who lived here in Duncan (Oklahoma) to see if he could help me identify the group in my picture. He thought it was an early photo of the IOOF and gave me the name and address of the I.O.O.F. State Secretary. I wrote and sent a copy of the photo to him. He wrote back that the old records were in the basement and had gotten wet during a flood so he could not research the old membership records nor tell me more about the photo.
I think I am correct in saying it was the I.O.O.F. I just looked at my web site and I have the photo identified as Woodmen of the World. I didn't realize I did that. I did find my negative of that photo and I had written on it that it was the Odd Fellows.
I'll have to get my son to help me to correct it.
My Great-Grandfather Wm. A. McLain and Grandfather Kirtes Calvery were living in Stephens Co. near Dixie, Oklahoma at that time but shortly they would move to Carter County near Fox. Oklahoma.
My Calvery and McLain families are listed on my web site.
