Oklahoma Weather & Wheat...
"Wheat is being cut already, with swathing machines. The wheat looks pretty sad, very short and beginning to dry up everywhere. Some folks are letting the cattle graze it, others are swathing, and yesterday afternoon I noticed a couple of combines running in fields just west of Alva.
We got a smattering of rain Sunday night or early Monday, but only enough to dampen things a bit. I heard a report from a fellow in Capron (Oklahoma) that he measured a scant 2/10 of inch in his rain gauge. Some Alva fellows said 3/10 of inch in town. A cold front came through about 6:30 or so last evening (April 24) and it's pretty chilly this morning and supposed to get down into the 30s by early Wednesday - with plenty of wind, of course. I turned the heater back on this morning to break the chill in the house. I noticed that regular unleaded was $2.859 at (Alva, OK) Garnett's Conoco yesterday."
