Wrought Iron Range Stories...
"My father worked for the Wrought Iron Range Company in the late 1930's. He traveled with a group of salesmen and their wives throughout the New England States selling the stoves to farm folks. It was a very successful two years. Dad sold a great many of the ranges. They had a small model they carried along with one of the iron stove lids that was reputed to be unbreakable and indeed it was. A big swede challanged him one day and said he could break it if given the chance. Dad told him to go ahead and try. The man placed it on a heavy chopping block and came down on it with a big post maul. It flipped way up in the air, spun around and never broke. The man bought one immediately and paid cash. There are many good stories relating to the WIRC." -- Robert Chantler - Email: rchantler@charter.net
