"I found your information re: the WARWICK family posted. Let me say thank you for the information. Have you seen this Warwick website - Warwick/Lane Family -- (doc file, 83kb)?
I have been able to prove my dad's line back to Grainger Co., TN to Archelus (found spelled many ways) SMITH born ca., TN, to Martha Jane "Patsy" WARWICK b. ca. 1802/1805, TN (probably Grainger Co). I have all their children/dates/spouses,etc.
I found Martha's dad's will in the library quite by accident. I pulled a book from the shelf and another one fell to the floor. It is only about 5 pages long with 3-loose wills & papers. One was the will of JOHN WARWICK who married Mary "Polly" LANE in Grainger Co.,TN, 19 August 1799. I believe both were b. in VA. They had 2 sons: (listed in the will) John Perrington Warwick b., ca. 1810 & Elias Warwick b. ca. 1801.
John's will named his wife Mary, children: Perington & Elias & Martha SMITH. (There is a Willie WARWICK married another LANE girl about the same time in Grainger Co. (2 brothers marrying sisters?)- I'd have to pull the records for exact dates).
I believe John must have been ill about the time Martha & Archelus got married, b/c Elias was the one who paid the surety. After Martha's death, Archelus married a widow, Rebecca Jane PAYNE DeROSSERT in Arkansas ca. 1860. She was 30 yrs old & he 60! She had several children by her 1st hubby and they had 4 more. (I have the exact date in my records)
My line follows Archelus' & Martha's 1st born: Pryor Anderson SMITH (PA) b. 1823, Grainger Co., TN, married Rachel Jane BURKE. (11/12 children)
In 1860 living with Archelus & family is Mary SMITH, 85 yrs b., VA. I believe this is Archelus' mother.
After Rachel died, PA married a widow, Ella Jane McDANIEL (maiden name) who had 4 children by her 1st, she and PA had one son.
I am still trying to PROVE ARCHELUS' siblings & parents. I believe they are Thomas SMITH & Mary EDRY married in Grainger Co., TN ca. 1797.
There are two Thomas SMITH's living in Grainger Co., ca. 1800/1810. Both are about the same age, married and have abt. the same # of children (one has 1 less). One lives on the HOLSTON River who seems to be well researched and documented and the other on Richland Knobbs (or something like that). I believe this is the one I need.
Researchers believe EDRY may be a typo-error since NO ONE has found a family with that surname in the US at that time period. There is an ADAY & an ELY family in the surrounding area which could be a possibility.
I found the marriage records of the WARWICKs/LANEs; Thomas SMITH & Mary EDRY; & Archelus' & Patsy's in Bryon SISTLER's book of Early East TN Marriages.
I'm still trying to find a document to prove the parents of John WARWICK & Mary LANE (I believe she ties in with the Rev.
Tindance LANE just now sure if she was a dau or g.dau).
Thanks for all your work. Looking forward to hearing from you. I know this WARWICK group goes back to the WARWICK/DUNLAP marriage." -- Margaret, TX - Email: fingorfi@swbell.net
