Driftwood Gerbers...
"The Balmer Fund organization is seeking any stories about Gerber's who settled around Driftwood (Oklahoma).
The Balmer Fund is named after Harper County pioneers Lina and Ferdinand Balmer. Grandmother Lina was a Gerber. My folks used to go 'down into Oklahoma' once in awhile 'to see the Gerbers.' We children didn't get to go along. I am wondering if anyone has any 'Gerber stories' they can share with the readers of the Prairie Connection? I believe the Gerbers there were Uncle and cousins of Grandmother.
We are also seeking distribution points in small towns of north central Oklahoma for our monthly publication. At the present time we have newsracks in Alva and Enid. In Wakita, Cleta buys the copies and distributes them as a courtesy to her customers; that's really a wonderful gift that doesn't cost much and helps us a little as well as helps find new readers. We have several options so send an inquiry email and we can work something out: Cafes, convenience stores , grocery stores and other high traffic places are our best bet." -- Email: iread@prairieconnect.com - Rosalea Hostetler, Founder/President - The Balmer Fund, Inc., Harper, KS - "Preserving the history, art & culture of the prairies for future generations."
