This Duchess Pug is overcoming, surviving her hip displaysia and has been turning circles on all fours this week, but still have trouble climbing stairs. NW Okie gives me lifts up and down on things, though.

NW Okie's Corner

Back during the beginning of World War II lots of young men and ladies were getting married just before the men were sent overseas to war. Lots of those marriages did not last, and many ended in divorce after World War II. Just another casualty of war, you ask? Probably! My Uncle Bob McGill was one of those young people getting married.

1895 Waterworks Bond Election - Alva, O.T.

It was back on 3 September 1899, Sunday, in northwest Oklahoma, that The Wichita Daily Eagle, Wichita, Kansas, page 9, reported a "Waterworks Bond Election called to be held in Alva, Oklahoma Territory, Monday, 2 October 1899."

1909-10 Alva Rest Room Guestbook

Have you ever wondered if your ancestors passed through Alva, Woods county, Oklahoma back in the 1909-1910 era? 1909-1910 Alva Rest Room Guestbook was a guestbook of those who visited Alva, Oklahoma back in 1909 and 1910. It was a place that travelers, country folks and others used as a stopping off place to rest before the long journey back home. Some would come in by train from other states, but most were from around Northwest Oklahoma and a few from the other parts of the State of Oklahoma.

Four Quarts of Whiskey, Five Gallons of Beer, only Permitted in Private Homes. It was 2 March 1911, in Alva, Woods county, Oklahoma, when the Alva Review Courier reported in 1911 a new prohibition bill, containing but three sections, embodying only the most essential features of a law introduced in the Senate by Senator J. H. Langston, of Guymon, in 1911.

Carrie A. Nation Is Dead - 9 June 1911

It was in Renfrew's Record, dated 16 June 1911, that we read about Mrs. Carrie A. Nation, whose fame as a world-wide saloon smasher, breathed her last in the Evergreen hospital, Leavenworth, Kansas, Friday, June 9, 1911, aged about 66 years.

The Liberty Bell School District #9

No doubt that you have notice the 1905 Liberty School Souvenir to the left. I got out my Pioneer Footprints Across Woods County history book to view an Old Woods County map with the townships and school districts located on it. Liberty Bell School was located in the southern part of Liberty township. The school was located 6 miles south of Alva , Oklahoma and 1 mile or so west of highway 281.
