Our weekend in Southwest Colorado Rockies has been snowy and it was still coming down with that white, fluffy snow in between the sun trying to break through the clouds this morning, but by afternoon we had sunshine. One hundred years ago today, 11 February 1913, the big headlines news in the New York Tribune, Tuesday, from New York, NY, was the death in the Antarctic of Captain Scott and four of his men. They had attained the South Pole only a year before (1912) after Amundsen and were on return journey when overtaken by a great blizzard. It was reported that they may have starved in the snows. Back in 2002, when we were researching the "Old Opera House Death of Mabel Oakes" (9 November 1910) we found some interesting bit of evidence used in the trial of Justice N. L. Miller. It concerned some "Black Hand letters" that Mabel Oakes had received while she was alive. New Opera House Postcard
