Walking With Sweet Silly Sadie

During the 1893 Cherokee Outlet Land Rush, 16 September 1893, there was a question in The Guthrie Daily Leader, out of Guthrie, Oklahoma, 13 September 1893, Wednesday, on page 1, the headlines read: "The Dalton Gang." Would the bandits raid the city on that day? All should be prepared for the worst. City banks were being closed, were consequently safe.

Huge Train Robbery, 13 September 1893

According the The McPherson Daily Republican, out of McPherson, Kansas, 13 September 1893, Wednesday, on page 1, the headlines read: "Huge Robbery." A Lake Shore train, a New York express, had been held up by twenty men. The engineer was wounded. And the express car was blown open and $300,000 taken. Who were these twenty something men?

Oklahoma Territory's Run of 1893 brought in trains, wagons and outsiders on horse and foot to enter the strip on opening day. Only those holding certificates from the government booths would be allowed on the train cars.

The Wichita Daily Eagle, out of Wichita, Kansas, 16 September 1893, Saturday, on page 1, had these headlines: "Ready For the Rush." The Cherokee Outlet Boomers were waiting the signal. The lands expected to be occupied by one hundred and fifty thousand people that night.
