Warwickton Homestead Sold
The following article was also found amongst my Grandmother Constance Estella Warwick McGill's clippings concerning her Warwick ancestors. I did not have the name of the paper, but it was with other clippings from a West Virginia Paper around 1934. I believe it to be around Bath or Pocahontas County, W. Va. Warwickton was a Warwick family homestead in Virginia that my ninth generation cousins ancestors (Judge James Wood Warwick family) owned and built in 1848. The Article Reads - "Warwickton, the home of the late Judge James Wood Warwick, Sr. in Bath County was sold last week by the owners, Mrs. Jame F. Reid of Norfolk, Miss Celestine B. Warwick and James Wood Warwick, Jr. for $20,000 to a party at Hot Springs [Virginia]. Attorney John W. Stephenson had charge of the transaction. This is one of the oldest homesteads in this section of the state, and has been in the Warwick family for four generations. One of the first patents to some of the land was issued by George II of England to Jacob Warwick grandfather of Judge Warwick, one of the heroes of Point Pleasant. The farm consists of 2,500 acres and it is understood the new owners will turn it into a hunters paradise, as it is peculiarly suited for such. This is a picture of the Warwickton homestead taken October 10, 1999. It is now owned by the George Washington National Forest and the house was leased by Ron and Pam Stidham and rejuvenated into a the "Hidden Valley Bed & Breakfast." | View or Add Comments (0 Comments) | Receive updates ( subscribers) | Unsubscribe
