Populism Illustrated In 1894

We found this in The Semi-Weekily Messenger, Wilmington, NC, dated 25 October 1894, Thursday, page 4, concerning"Populism" and what "The Chronicle" wrote of its own State says about "Populism:"

Found on Newspapers.com

Populism teaches the people everywhere as to what Populism is in practice. Populism has been tried, tested, experienced, and the sane people were "sufficiently amused" for awhile. People were beginning to see that Populism was a great curse and disappointment to the people.

"There is no reason to believe that Populism will be freer from disastrous results in Georgia than in Colorado or in Kansas. If men who are incompetent and fanatical are put in charge of any government they can wreck its prosperity, it matters not how bright the sun is shining when they take charge."

It seems the frantic, rabid cranks in charge of Populism worked a great evil also for Kansas.

Take heed and nee from the curse of Populism, made far more dangerous and vicious when united with and blended with Radicalism, especially of the old, "fire-tried" North Carolina kind!

But wait ... this is not all. Populism had prayed a great curse and blight in Oregon and Washington States. It had worked the same mischief there that it had done in Kansas and Colorado.

It had been stated in newspapers in 1894: "Wherever the Populist party have succeeded in electing a mayor in any of the towns of the States above mentioned, it had paralyzed business of every kind."
