Walking With Sweet Silly Sadie
With all that is going on in the aftermath of the 2106 US Presidential election, acts of hate and intolerance were reported in alarming numbers. That is why NW Okie and I (Sweet Sadie Pug) have donned our wearing of a single Safety Pin in Solidarity, unity and strength as a symbol of tolerance, inclusion, support and empathy. The racism, sexism, xenophobia, homophobia and fear of the other that characterized the election cycle must not be tolerated.
To us it is a simple symbol of our solidarity with anyone who might feel threatened because of their "differences" with others. It is our promise that we accept their difference without condemnation and will do all in our power to protect them from perceived danger.
Thanksgiving In the 1800's
Thanksgiving takes us back to November, 1800, for a short mention, an appointed day of Thanksgiving, as the state of Connecticut was celebrating the holiday throughout the state.
A year later (1801), there was mentioned in news archives: "Thursday the 26th of November is appointed by Authority to be observed as a day of Thanksgiving throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts."
IN 1802, Thursday, the 25th day of November, was appointed a day of Thanksgiving and prayer, throughout the states of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The citizens of this county, who are chiefly emigrants from new England, observe the days of Thanksgiving, which are appointed in the respective states from which they came, with all the solemnities of their Eastern brethren.

A Thanksgiving Hymn
Sweet is the smile that nature shews
When spring unfolds the leaf,
Grateful the ruddy apple glows, and laughs the golden sheaf:
Streams from the mountain tops decline,
The meads below to cheer;
Spring, Summer, Autumn, all combine
To vivify the year.
Now Winter takes her annual round,
By night the stream she walks,
With iron hands fast locks the ground,
And o'er the ocean stalks.
Remembrance she cannot congress,
Nor expectation check;
Delights of Summer still we feel,
'Mid Nature's seeming wreck:
Thus, conscious of the power that notes,
The Sparrow of its fall,
Man every human of praise devotes
To God who nurtures all.
Hence man, the priest of nature, brings
The firstlings of his flock.
Thro' him the whole creation sings,
The God that melts the rock.
