Alva, Ok., Sept. 21 (1893) -- The first great event in a new town was celebrated at Alva in the sinking of the first well. Water was found in inexhaustible quantities, soft as rain water and pure as snow, at a depth of thirty feet. It was almost artesian in supply and ran nearly to the surface on the sand bed being struck. Alva was growing rapidly and as the land office town for the central part of the strip would make one of the substantial cities of Oklahoma.
