1893, September, Four Sooners Shot Down
According to The Guthrie Daily Leader, out of Guthrie, Oklahoma, 13 September 1893, Wednesday, on page 1, the headlines read: "Four Sooners Killed." Soldiers shoot down men at Stillwater. The Strippers refused to stop while looking for good claims and were fired upon.

Reports were received in the city the night before that four sooners, names unknown, were shot and fatally wounded by soldiers near Stillwater.
The strippers had received their certificates and ventured into the strip to locate good claims. Several soldiers came upon the sooners and ordered them to halt, which they refused to do, whereupon the soldiers fired upon them. Much excitement prevailed at Stillwater in consequence.
